Graduate School USA (GSUSA) Board of Trustees member Connie Newman is being inducted into Government Executive’s prestigious “Government Hall of Fame.”
The Hall of Fame honors the best of the best — those who have demonstrated sustained achievement and unparalleled dedication to public service. Inductees have done much more than achieved a singular accomplishment — they have made historic progress in changing government for the better, and their influence will live on for generations.
Ms. Newman, who has served on the GSUSA Board of Trustees since 2010, began her federal career as a secretary at the Interior Department in 1962, and worked her way up to earn seven presidential appointments. She was appointed by President Nixon as director of VISTA and later as a commissioner of the Consumer Product Safety Commission. She was later an assistant secretary of Housing and Urban Development and director of the Office of Personnel Management under President George H. W. Bush. She became assistant secretary of State for African affairs in 2004.
Ms. Newman will receive her award during a gala celebration on September 19, 2019 in Washington, DC, where she will join an exclusive group of decorated and successful leaders, including President Theodore Roosevelt, Apollo 11 astronauts Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, Neil Armstrong and Michael Collins, and former Secretary of State Colin Powell.
Each year, a new class of inductees will be added to the elite membership.
