Creating a Culture of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Government (MGMT8011)

Rising Hands

Creating a Culture of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Government

Description:

This dynamic, two-day course provides the opportunity to address these challenging leadership imperatives. You will explore the current expectations employees have today regarding a safe and respectful working environment; you will learn about the performance gains that accrue when a positive workplace culture exists. You will gain fundamental insight into barriers that disrupt efforts to create such a culture, including individual implicit bias that often result in micro-aggressions and can lead to harassment and bullying. Short, interactive videos linked with self-assessments help you to recognize why our minds create categories that result in unconscious biases that influence how we view others, and how such perceptions can be changed. You will learn concrete actions you can take to work through such barriers, not only for yourself but for your team members. You will identify the characteristics of a safe and respectful workplace culture and what leaders do to create it. You will engage with the course instructor and fellow participants in open forums and in small group settings. You will have a session with a subject matter expert on current federal regulatory policies and how to apply them. Throughout the course you will identify and then apply practical leadership skills that are essential in fostering inclusion and equity among a diverse workforce.
